A teacher’s job encompasses a lot more than just teaching academic lessons. Their influence in child development is the same as the parents, if not more. A good teacher is like a mentor, a friend, a guardian and disciplinarian all combined into one. No doubt it is considered as one of the noblest professions in the world.
Sh. Shivam Sahu an alumnus of Saraswati Vidhya Mandir Higher Secondary school Bankhedi, MP was so influenced by his teachers and mode of education in his school, that he decided to become a teacher in a Vidya Bharati school himself.
Recently he shared his experience with Vidya Bharati Purv Chatra representative via a telephonic interview, which is shared below:
Interviewer: Why you chose teaching as a profession?
Shivam Sahu: I feel that teachers play a very important role in molding the next generation of responsible, well developed, grounded and well mannered individuals. Teachers are nation builders in their own right and thus I like the profession and the responsibility that is attached to it.
During my school days, I was greatly influenced by my teachers and consider them to be ideal role models. I hope that I will be able to teach the same things that my teachers have taught me and guide my students in a manner similar to how I have been guided.
Interviewer: What kind of social work you are associated with?
Shivam Sahu: Like all Vidya Bharati schools, our school Saraswati Vidhya Mandir, Pipariya is also involved with several kinds of social work like tree plantation, awareness campaign against the use of plastics, donation towards the needy, water conservation etc. All the teachers and students participate in the social activities organised by the school. Being involved in social work is a duty towards our nation that we all need to fulfill.
Interviewer: What impact did Vidya Bharati have on your life?
Shivam Sahu: Everything that I am today has been possible due to the education and guidance that I have received from my revered school teachers. They are the ones who have enabled me to accomplish my goals.
Moreover I feel that that only Vidya Bharati schools can provide complete education that a child needs. My own experience has helped me to realize its importance, which in turn lead me to take up the position in a Vidya Bharati school. Thus you can see how my whole life has been shaped by the institution.
Interviewer: What message you would like to give for Vidya Bharati students?
Shivam Sahu: Vidya Bharti certainly deserves congratulations for the unprecedented and significant contribution it has made in the field of education. The only message that I want to share with all the students is - Don't get attracted blindly towards western form of education that can provide only bookish knowledge. If you want to become an ideal citizen with high moral values and positive attitude towards life, don't forget about your cultural heritage, values and the ancient wisdom provided by our religious texts.
