Although India is a developing country, a large population of our country still lives in villages. As per 2011 census, India consisted of approximately 649, 48 villages, with more than 65% Indians residing in rural Areas. With India primarily being an agricultural economy, proper development of Indian villages becomes essential.

Village communities are very different to the ones that we are used to in urban areas, thus the method of development work also varies vastly. Ushering in modern development, but still keeping the traditional values and culture intact is a finely balanced act. Most of the development work is micro managed in the village level by the local panchayats and ‘Gram Vikas Samitis’ with the help of community participation.

Sri Lalit Patidar, Vidya Bharati is an alumni of Saraswati Sishu Mandir, Amlar Rajgarh, MP where he had studied till class 8 and then completed his higher schooling from local governmental school and graduation from Bhoj University.

Mr. Patidar hails from Amlar village of Narsinghgarh Tehsil in Rajgarh, Madhya Pradesh. He belongs to a farming family from the area and is primarily associated with Soya bean farming. He is also a member of ‘Gram Vikas Samiti’ in his local village panchayat, which is responsible for development of the village.

During his tenure as the member of the Samiti, Mr. Patidar has been associated with several developmental projects, ranging from tree plantation drives, Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, construction of toilets in the area etc. The Samiti and its members also work in association with several NGOs for the development work. Due to their efforts, for the past few years, the number of toilets in the village households has increased exponentially. Presently due to Corona Virus Pandemic, the members are focusing on ensuring food, basic necessities and health care for all. While speaking about his work, Mr. Patidar mentioned that he even did a degree in social work from Narsinghgarh, in order to help his village in a more organised way.

Furthermore, he urged all Vidya Bharati students to always remember the values taught to them at school and serve others in whichever capacity that they can.
