Chitralekha Rathore, an ayurvedic doctor from Raipur, is an alumnus of Saraswati Vidya Mandir, Vidyut Mandal, Korba in Chhattisgarh got the opportunity to become the second contestant to reach the hot seat in popular Indian TV game show Kaun Banega Carorepati. She participated in the 11th season of KBC, hosted by famous actor Shri Amitabh Bachan.
Chitralekh, an ardent fan of Mr. Amitabh Bachan, shared that she has been trying to audition for the show since the time it was launched in 2000. Everyone discouraged her, but she never gave up trying. Finally she got selected this season after going through several selection rounds and went on to win Rs 6,40,000. According to Rathore this season’s social message of never giving up on one’s dream (#AdeyRaho), perfectly encapsulates her journey.
During the show, she got selected from among 10 other participants by giving the correct answer in the least amount of time to become the first female contestant of the season.
In her introduction Chitralekha said that she has always been an outspoken person irrespective of what opinions others held about her. On the topic of her marriage Rathore shared her story of how she was rejected several times by prospective grooms due to her dark skin colour, despite being highly educated. According to her Indian society still discriminates between fair and dark skinned women in every sphere of life, which is really shameful.
Later Dr. Rathore went on to say that apart from meeting her idol, she wanted to participate in this show because it focuses on knowledge.
Chitralekha’s determination and knowledge helped her to achieve everything her heart desired, because she firmly believes that if one sets his / her mind to achieve something, the goal will be accomplished, no matter the circumstances.
