“Appo Deepo Bhava”, ‘Be a Light Unto Yourself’ - This is the core principle that Vidya Bharati alumni from Chattisgarh, Sri Sachit Sahu lead his life by.
Mr. Sahu is a self made man, who is a firm believer of self reliance and independence. He believes that in an ideal world every person should be equipped enough to become self reliant, whether its finances, mental health or emotional well being. It is only through this process that every citizen can become a leader in his/her own right and be confident enough to become assets for their family, society and nation at large. He feels that the way to self reliance is ‘education’.
Mr. Sahu presently works as a ‘Mukhya Nagarpalika Adhikari’ or Chief municipal officer, Chhattisgarh and is a very busy man, who has several responsibilities, looking after developmental works as well as the well being and safety of the residents. In spite of his massive workload he always makes his priority to find time and personally teach children from nearby villages who belong to financially weak backgrounds.
Before becoming Mukhya Nagarpalika Adhikari in 2015, he used to give tuition to children on mathematics from nearby village areas, many of whom are now engineering and pharma students. He has also guided the students who were preparing for competitive examinations and feels proud to see that among his ex students many have become professors and assistant professors. Mr. Sahu states that nothing gives him more satisfaction than to see the students that he had taught and guided, become self-reliant and turn into model citizens.
Talking about his childhood school, Mr. Sahu considers himself to be fortunate enough to study under Vidya Bharati, which he feels has changed the course of his life for the better. The values taught to him helped him to recognize the importance of becoming independent in order to help others in the society, who were less fortunate than him. He also feels that his school has helped him to learn all the essential skills required to face any roadblock that life throws at him.
Educationally Mr. Sahu started his journey with Saraswati Shishu Mandir where he had got admitted in class V and later shifted to Saraswati Gram Ganga High School, Kasekera Mahasamund Chhattisgarh. After completion of his schooling, he did his B.ED Degree from distance education and then completed M.SC in Mathematics.
Mr. Sahu is still well connected with Vidya Bharati and frequently visits the Saraswati Shishu Mandirs at Bagbahra and Kasekera. He is involved in the ‘sanchalan samiti’ of Saraswati Shishu Mandir Kasekera and has acquired the position of ‘Pratinidhi’ of Raipur. In 2016 he gifted the school with a sound system costing approximately 53000/- during the yearly alumni meet. He feels that as the school is in the village area, it still lacks many facilities and he is doing his best to improve them.
Vidya Bharti thanks Sri Sachit Sahu for taking out time and sharing his inspirational thoughts with the Vidya Bharati community.
