Garima Upadhyay, a social worker informing people about benefits of various government schemes and helping them to avail those

During these unprecedented times with the COVID-19 pandemic some people are going beyond the call of duty. One such name is Garima Upadhyay, an alumnus of Saraswati Shishu Vidya Mandir, Jhupulchaura. Fresh out of college, the very young Garima, choose to become a social ambassador and help those in need.

Garima studied in Saraswati Shishu Vidya Mandir, Jhupulchaura till 8th and then moved to Inter College Kannauj to complete her 12th class. She then joined Hukum Singh Bora Government Degree College, Someshwar to complete her graduation in History, Sociology and English. While she was graduating she also taught in Saraswati Sishu Mandir.

“I felt that the knowledge and moral that I have acquired from my school, I should transfer that knowledge to the children. So I started teaching in Sishu Mandir while I was doing my graduation”, mentioned Garima.

Right after completing her gradugation, Garima joined The Hunger Project as a Field Trainer, which runs in 6 states of India including Uttarakhand.

“The project focuses on two things – health and education of the people living in rural areas”, mentioned Garima. Currently, 66 gram panchayats are included under this project. Garima meets the Sarpanch and Block Officers and explains to them about various government schemes which can benefit people. She then organizes a meeting with the villagers to help them understand about these schemes.

“We gather people and tell them what the schemes of the government are and what the people can benefit from it. We create awareness among the people and also help them to avail these schemes”, explained Garima.

Through her hard work and dedication, Garima will reach far and wide and become a support for the society.
