Resident of Tufanganj, Cooch Behar, Shri Abhijit Pramanik is a lecturer in college with an experience of more than 10 years. Recently he shared his journey with Vidya Bharati portal team via a brief interview, which is as mentioned below.

Interviewer:  Please tell us about your academic and professional background.

Mr. Pramanik:  I am an alumni of Sarada Sishu Tirtha, Tufanganj, where I had studied till class 4 and then joined Tufanganj Nripendra Narayan Memorial High School, from where I passed class 12 board examinations. I did my graduation with Geography Hons.in 2009, from Darjeeling Government College and Masters in the same subject from Chhatrapati Shahu Ji Maharaj University. I did my B. Ed and M.Ed from Himachal Pradesh University in Shimla.

Presently I am teaching as a lecturer in B.Ed college known as Baikuntha College of Education, Falakata,Dalimpur in Alipurduar district of West Bengal. Professionally, I have been giving tuition since graduation. I have been working in the current institution for the past three years. Before that I had been working at Kendriya Vidyalaya Alipurduar as a contractual teacher.

Interviewer: What made you take up teaching as a profession?

Mr. Pramanik:  Most of my family members are educators. I had grown up idolizing my father who was a teacher and the three of my elder teachers also joined the same profession. Thus I had a soft corner for the same. After completion of higher secondary and while studying Geography Hons. I developed an interest for the profession.

Interviewer: What advice would you give to any Vidya Bharati student who would like to become a teacher in the future?

Mr. Pramanik:  All teachers in Vidya Bharati schools teach in a systematic manner with lots of patience. Firstly I would suggest that the students should gather as much knowledge as they can. Secondly they should be disciplined in their studies. If they have decided to become a teacher, they should aim towards that, but in the meanwhile the students should try and do well in their class wise education too.

Interviewer: How was your experience at your school?

Mr. Pramanik:  Apart from good education, one of the most unique things at our school was the importance that was given to disciplined and orderly daily routine, starting from the morning prayers till day end.  A lot of stress was given to social service as well.

Interviewer: Are you still connected with your school?

Mr. Pramanik:  Yes, every Sunday, free classes are held for children from financially weak families at our school, where I often teach them. Our school is also associated with ‘Seva Bharati Trust’ of which I have been a member since 2014. I along with other alumni frequently reach out to people in need through this organisation. Recently during Covid 19 pandemic we have been working at several social causes. Seva Bharati members also provide service during natural disasters as well.

Interviewer: Would you like to give any message to Vidya Bharati students?

Mr. Pramanik: I think all things that the student needs to learn are taught in Vidya Bharati schools. I would only advise the children to study hard and when you grow up try and serve your nation to the best of your ability.
