Uttarakhand Science Education and Research Centre (USERC) was setup in 2005 by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of Uttarakhand as an autonomous organization. It aims to support education and promote career prospects in the realms of Science and Technology in the state. USERC is dedicated towards motivating and developing academicians and students through its involvement in teaching and training students for research in fields of science and technology.
A large part of Uttarakhand consists of difficult and fragile ecosystems that cannot be disturbed due to ecological constraints. This has led to the state being unable to develop economically using conventional methods. One of the important functions of USERC is to help the government to develop the state, keeping the ecological and economical balance intact.
Dr. Bhavtosh Sharma, an alumnus of Saraswati Shishu Mandir, Sirsaganj, Firozabad has been working as a scientist in Uttarakhand Science Education and Research Centre for the past 8 years where he is largely responsible for providing training on water conservation, water testing and health related issues to students. He also works closely with people inhabiting different villages in Uttarakhand, regarding environmental protection and maintaining ecological balance.
Dr. Sharma says that he had grown up learning the importance of environmental protection from a very early age due to his school. He was also fascinated with science and technology. Thus when he grew up he planned on merging both of his passions through his work.
Apart from his job related commitments, Dr. Sharma also spends his valuable time and expertise on testing water samples for free and training villagers on how they can find solutions to problems created by bad quality water .
Dr. Sharma’s dedication towards environmental protection and social service can be seen through his work.
