Akash Singh Thakur, an alumnus of Saraswati Shishu Mandir, Surkhi, belongs to a humble family. His father is a farmer and mother, a homemaker and his uncle is the Sarpanch of Surkhi Panchayat. Despite several odds, Akash is determined to crack the IAS examination.
“There is none in my family who has ever done a job. But, I want to clear the IAS examination and work for the people of my country”, mentions Akash.
Akash got into the Vidya Bharati School when he was in class 1 and continued to study there till 12th standard. Saraswati Shishu Mandir, he reiterates, has shaped his life. “Education can be acquired from any school, but the moral and cultural education that we received from our school cannot be found elsewhere”, said Akash who holds his school at a very high esteem.
Akash holds a double bachelor’s degree – Bachelor of Commerce and Bachelor of Arts. Since his school days he took keen interest in his studies. The inquisitive mind of a child was further fuelled by his teachers who always encouraged him and helped him to learn beyond his textbooks.
Akash presently stays in Indore and is preparing for his IAS examination. He spends 10 to 12 hours daily on his studies for the examination. His concentration was built from his early childhood owing to the prayer classes held every day at the beginning of the school. “The prayer class was held for more than an hour every day. We would sing in the praise of the Lord and Mother India. Chanting Sanskrit mantras gave me so much strength and helped me to connect more and more with my country and improve my concentration”, remembers Akash.
