Abhishek Upadhyay, a Scientist from Switzerland, traveled across 56 countries, always carries India in his heart

Abhishek Upadhyay has been living abroad for over 10 years now, yet not even for a single moment his heart stopped beating for his Motherland – India. 

An alumnus of Surendra Pal Gramodaya Vidyalaya (SPGV), Chitrakoot, Abhishek was highly inspired by the teaching and research of his father, Prof. Virendra Upadhyay, a Biomathematician at Mahatma Gandhi Chitrakoot Gramodaya Vishwavidyalay (MGCGV), Asia’s 1st rural university and remains grateful to his mother, Smt. Ranjana Upadhyay (journalist turned politician), brothers Padmanabh (manager), Ashutosh (medical doctor) and all well-wishers. 

After completing his schooling, Abhishek moved to Gwalior to pursue his Bachelors of Engineering in Biotechnology from Madhav Institute of Technology & Science. He then went on to join the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore as a Research Assistant. 

While working in IISc, Abhishek received a full scholarship to do his MPhil from the University of Hong Kong. Later Abhishek went to Humboldt University of Berlin in Germany to complete his PhD. During these times he was invited to Australia, South Africa, Israel, Uruguay and various other countries for his research work and paper presentations. Throughout his career so far, he has been interested in understanding the fundamental mechanisms of biological processes. He is currently working as a Scientist in Switzerland.

“In the past one decade I have done extensive travelling for my research work and paper presentations”, mentioned Abhishek, who has traveled across 56 countries, covering 6 continents. 

In spite of staying abroad for so many years Abhishek remains rooted to his Indian culture and traditions. He continues to speak fluently in refined Hindi and celebrates Indian festivals in foreign land. “The truth is that I am madly, wildly and even excessively in love with Bharat – the kind of love that cannot be expressed into a neat logical elucidation”, shared Abhishek. 

In spite of all the hurdles that many face in India, the spirit of Indian culture and its best ideals have their message for humanity and not for India alone, but for the entire world. “My parents and my school always taught me to love and respect my country first, no matter where I am. My father taught me to think globally and act locally. And I carry these messages always in my heart”, shared Abhishesk, who for the love for his country, would want to return to India and serve her through the knowledge he has acquired elsewhere.
