The illustrious and historical journey of SMB Gita SS School, Kurukshetra from pre Independence to present day

Founded before independence  of our nation, SMB Gita Senior Secondary school, Kurukshetra is one of the oldest Vidya Bharati schools steeped in rich history. From a small building with tin shed to becoming one of the leading schools in Haryana built on 25 acres of lush green land, the school has come a long way since its establishment.

SMB Gita S S school, Kurukshetra was founded by Param Poojniya Madhav Sadashiv Rao Golvalkar in the year 1946 and was run in the Kali Kamli Ashram Kurukshetra. Later it was shifted to a nearby donated land consisting of a building with tin shed. The school continued to grow under the leadership of several capable personalities who acted as principals of the institution. The year 1975 proved to be a trying period when the school’s principal along with several of its teachers were arrested during the emergency period.

Today the school has more than 1200 students, 41 teachers and an alumni strength of more than 10,000. It boasts of modern facilities, a well equipped library, fleet of school buses for students, Laboratories, Audio - Visual Aids, Music Room, Atal Tinkering Lab and hostel facilities. The boys only school is affiliated to CBSE board and has seven independent branches. 

Like all Vidya Bharati schools, sports and extracurricular activities are considered as an essential part of education and the students are encouraged to take part in different competitions. In the field of sports the students have made their mark in Boxing, Handball, Athletics, Volleyball, Weight Lifting, Basketball, Football, Wrestling and Kabaddi both at state and national levels. 

The school is associated with several social service and considers it as a fundamental part of personality development among the students. With this aim a unit of National Service Scheme (NSS) is being run by school.  It not only gives the students an exposure to social service, but also aids the students regarding career and personality development.

The school helps to run ‘Sanskar Kendras’ in remote areas and slums where there are no other educational institutions. Children belonging from financially weak background are also provided assistance by the school committee.

Along with social service, students are also encouraged to participate in multiple extracurricular activities and competitions such as, NCC , Bal Bharti, Olympiad ( science and mathematics), Sanskriti Gyan Priksha, Narayan Talent Search Exam, Ganit Mela, Gyan Vigyan Mela, Kala Sangam and much more.
