Sarat Chandra Bose was born on 6 September 1889 at Kodalia village of West Bengal. He both graduated and earned a Master’s degree in English literature (1909) from Presidency College and a law degree from the Calcutta University (1910). Sarat Bose was drawn into the vortex of the nationalist movement early in life. In 1936, Bose became the President of the Bengal Pradesh Congress Committee, and served as a member of the All India Congress Committee from 1936 till 1947. He strongly supported the formation of the Indian National Army by Subhas Bose, and actively participated in the Quit India movement.
