RSA leader Krishna Chandra Gandhi, along with Bhaurav Devras and Nana Jai Deshmukh, laid the foundation of the country's first Saraswati Shishu Mandir on July 1, 1952 at Pakki Bagh in Gorakhpur. This was an example of his experimental work, which in present days has become a big chain of schools.
After the establishment of the first school, slowly many other schools opened in UP. In order to run these schools, the Shishu Siksha Management Committee was formed in 1958. When such schools are opened in other states, committees are formed in them too. The Sarvathitkari Siksha Samiti were established in Punjab and Chandigarh as well as the Hindu Siksha Committee was set up in Haryana. Then, in 1977 Vidya Bharati Sanstha was formed, giving it a national form.
