The drive for spirituality is inherent in most human beings, but the path differs and its manifestation differs from individual to individual. It is hard to define the concept, but its importance on human psychology cannot be declined.
It has been proven through various studies that Spirituality is linked to many important aspects of human behavior. In general spiritual people have positive relationships, higher self-esteem, are more optimistic, and follow a strong purpose in life. Ancient texts from across the world including India have time and again emphasised on its need in human life.
Although most of us practice some form of spirituality in our lives, some individuals have devoted their entire lives to it. One such individual is Vidya Bharati alumnus, Mr. Satish Suthar.
Mr. Suthar had done his schooling from Adarsh Vidya Mandir, Keru, Jodhpur and holds a B.Tech degree (Computer Science) from University Engineering College, Kota, Rajasthan (2017).
Since childhood Mr. Suthar had an inclination towards spirituality and after growing up, he decided to become a monk and live a life of service. He joined the Hare Krishna Movement or The International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISCON), which is a movement based on the teachings of His Divine Grace A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada. Along with spirituality, the organisation is associated with several social services such as Food Relief programs and development of Eco Villages among the others.
After joining the organisation, Mr. Suthar changed his name to Sri Vallabh Dasa and took on the position of Youth mentor, where he helps guide youths, based on the principles of Bhagavad Gita. He is also associated with The Akshaya Patra Foundation, headquartered in Bengaluru, India. The NGO is the world’s largest (not-for-profit run) Mid-Day Meal Programme serving food every school day to over 1.8 million children from 16,856 schools across 12 states & 2 Union territories of India. The organisation strives to eliminate classroom hunger by implementing the Mid-Day Meal Scheme in the government and government-aided schools. Akshaya Patra also aims at countering malnutrition and supporting the right to education of economically disadvantaged children.
Apart from providing nutritious, hygienic food, it has also developed bio gas plants to utilise the waste created by their kitchen under its Go Green Initiative. Another initiative of the foundation is the installation of solar photo voltaic (PV) systems at some of its kitchens which reduces the use of conventional power to run its kitchens.
On asking the reason behind Mr. Suthar’s decision to choose the life of a monk, he responded that he wanted to grow spiritually, serve others and preach about the immense knowledge contained in Indian religious texts.
Mr. Satish Suthar’s thoughts and life’s path is truly inspirational for all.
