“The society should first understand, analyse the situation then react. Becoming aware about laws always helps to choose the right course of action”- Sidharth Parida (Vidya Bharati alumni)
No human society can operate in a vacuum without some form of rules, regulation or laws. Without social order or a system of rules to control them, human societies would find it difficult to maintain the structure and would gradually break up. As we are governed by laws from birth till death, it's fundamental to be conscious of basic laws and rights that govern our life, so that we are well informed and aware all the time.
Sidharth Parida, an alumnus of S.S.V.M. Badagada Brit Colony, Odisha, is a young practicing lawyer. Recently he spoke about the reasoning behind taking up law as a profession, as well as his future goals and aspirations. A short extract of his interview has been given below.
Interviewer : Kindly tell us something about your academic and professional background.
Sidharth : I passed my 10th examination from S.S.V.M. Badagada Brit Colony, Odisha in 2011 and then did my 11th and 12th from Gayatri Science College, Bhubaneswar. From a young age I had wanted to take up law as a profession, so I got admitted to SOA National Institute of Law, Bhubaneswar.
For the past one and a half years, I have been practicing law, in the field of GST, Taxation and Criminal Law. Though lots of cases can be immensely challenging and long drawn, it provides great satisfaction as well.
Presently I am also preparing to become a judge. In near future I plan to provide free legal service to the residents of the neighbouring rural areas and the students of my school along with my father as well.
Interviewer : What made you choose this profession?
Sidharth : My father Shri Kirtan Chandra Parida is a lawyer, who mainly deals with business and criminal cases. I have grown up idolising him. He was the first person who taught me the importance of being aware of the constitution, human rights and Indian laws. Later on in my life as I grew up I got to become aware of our responsibility to serve the society in which we live in. When the time came to make a decision regarding the profession which I wanted to pursue in the future, it became quite clear that by taking up law I would be able to do something I liked doing as well be able to serve my society.
Interviewer : Would you like to give any message to Vidya Bharati students?
Sidharth : I would like to advise all students to become aware of your basic rights and laws that can directly or indirectly affect your life. I can assure you that it will empower you and help to make right decisions in life. Do not feel hesitant to fight if you think that you are being cheated or taken advantage of in any way. Also share the right knowledge with the people in need, so that together we can build a better, unbiased and righteous society around us.
Further, I would like to request all alumni to stay connected with the school, so that we can guide the students in future.
Interviewer : Who is your inspiration?
Sidharth : I feel that we can be inspired by a lot of people in life. My father inspired me to become a good lawyer, my mother inspired me to become a good person. My teachers at school taught me the relevance of dedication, discipline, self motivation and maintaining a peaceful mind in the time of difficulty.
At school I learnt about the lives of great men like Shri Subhas Chandra Bose and Shri Madhusudhan Dutta who are my idols and got to learn a lot from their life.
We just need to look around and there will be no shortage of people or situations who or which can motivate us to become a better person.
Vidya Bharati Purv Chatra Parishad thanks Sidharth, for sharing his remarkable thoughts with the community.
