Sameer Kumar Mishra - The Vidya Bharati Alumni who chose to become a judge to serve the society

A judge's role is to serve the community in the pivotal role of administering justice according to law. Freedom, peace, order and good government - the essentials of the society we treasure - depend in the ultimate analysis on the faithful performance of judicial duty.

Sameer Kumar Mishra, an alumnus of Nagaji Saraswati Vidya Mandir, Maldepur Balia, chose to become a judge to serve the society with compassion and not just bookish knowledge. While pursuing his B.A. LLB Honors from Bhopal University, Sameer realized he had a bigger role to play than just defending his clients in the courtroom. 

Soon after completing his LLB degree, Sameer got selected in the Madhya Pradesh Electricity Board as Law Officer. While he worked there for one year he started his preparation for PCS J examination to become a Civil Judge. 

Sameer’s father, who is a retired District Judge, encouraged him and offered him great guidance to move ahead with his aim to serve the society as a Judge. “My father and my entire family supported me a lot”, mentioned Sameer. 

He got selected as a Civil Judge in Madhya Pradesh the next year, where he is currently serving. 

It is not only the duty of a Judge to properly interpret the meaning, significance, and implications of the law, but also to recognize that justice means more than just interpreting the law. “A judge must be compassionate enough to understand the people on both sides of the case. It is only then he can deliver an impartial and unbiased judgment”, explained Sameer. 

Sameer further adds, “As a lawyer you are only defending the interest of your client. But, when you are sitting on the judge’s chair, you are actually protecting the interest of both sides – the complainant and the accused”. 

Sameer through his work serves the society. He often remits the court fees of people who come from economically poor backgrounds. He also closely works with Seva Bharati and supports the organization through donation and voluntary service.
