Adversity never had the power to hold back those who are brimming with good intentions.
Lokesh Verma, an alumnus of Shiksha Bharti Sr. Sec School, Gohana Road, Haryana belongs to a simple family and had a tough childhood. His father was a shopkeeper and his mother stitched garments. Furthermore Lokesh himself suffered from a debilitating fear of public speaking or glossophobia. Considering the circumstances, Lokesh had to face multiple challenges growing up- both at personal and financial fronts.
According to Lokesh, one of the first turning points in his life came when his family got him admitted to Shiksha Bharti school. Initially he felt that his phobia will hold him back, but his teachers supported him at every stage. Slowly and surely, Lokesh not only started to learn to control his fear, but started to thrive in social situations. He was selected as ‘ school Pradhanmantri’ for three consecutive years and started participating in speech competitions as well.
After completing his schooling, Lokesh went to finish his B.Com from Vaish College, Rohtak in 2018 and MBA from Kurukshetra University, in Haryana.
From his school days, Lokesh had a strong urge to help others like him who were fighting their own war against life’s hurdles. Finally opportunity favoured him and he started working with a charitable organization named ‘Jai Jag Janani Bhakt Mandal’ which was established in 2012-2013.
The organisation consisting of approximately 22 members is associated with social work in many sectors, but mainly focuses on children from financially weak backgrounds. They hold various events such as blood donation camps, eye check up camps, distribution of sports equipment for disabled kids, etc. The members conduct surveys in nearby government schools and provide daily necessities like food , clothes etc to children in need.
In order to raise funds religious festivals are organised and the collected funds are used for social activities. Several well known dignitaries are donors of ‘Jai Jag Janani Bhakt Mandal’, such as:
Sh. Manish Grover (Ex Minister Haryana Govt )
Sh. Manmohan Goel ( Mayor , Rohtak )
Dr. Arvind Sharma (MP , Rohtak)
Sh. Satish Nandal (BJP Leader)
Sh. Balraj Kundu (MLA ,Meham - Haryana )
Sh. Naveen Jain ( Businessman) to name a few.
When asked about his inspiration behind his social work, Lokesh explains that throughout his life, people have helped and supported him. His parents, his extended family, his teachers and his school principal have all stood beside him, and he feels that now when he is well established and working as a HR manager, it’s his turn to support those who are struggling and need help.
Lokesh further stated that he would like to urge all Vidya Bharati students to stay disciplined and work on improving themselves. If they can stay true to their aim, they can have full trust that their school will always support and guide them.
Vidya Bharati Purv Chatra thanks Lokesh for sharing his story and believes that his experiences will inspire more students to go after their life goals as well.
