It was a dream of Amalendu Koch, an alumnus of Garudachal Vidyapeeth Belbari, Meghalaya, to join the Indian Army. So after completing his class 10th from the Vidya Bharati School and 12th from Don Bosco College, Tura, Amalendu did not waste any time to apply for Indian’s Armed Forces.
“I always wanted to serve my country as her soldier. So, when I got selected in the army, I felt the divine has finally blessed me”, shared Amalendu.
It was his grit and faith that brought Amalendu this far, who comes from a very humble background. His father is a farmer and was the only earning member of the family of 6 until his elder brother got selected in the Border Security Force.
Amalendu’s hilly background helps him a lot during his service. Often one is required to stay in extreme cold climates at high altitudes. Coming from a hilly village, Amalendu is usually physically fit and his economically poor background gives him the mental strength to overcome tough tasks.
“Perhaps Mother India gave me the right conditions since my childhood to become a soldier”, Said Amalendu with a smile.
His parents have always been very supportive towards him. So, when he decided to join the Indian Army they were not only happy but rather very encouraging.
“For months one is not able to go home. But the feeling that one is serving the nation always acts as a motivation”, shared Amalendu.
Amalendu looks forward to serving the country and motivating other village youth like him to join the forces.
