India is a country of strange contradiction. On one hand our ancients texts urge us to protect and respect Women, on the other hand the Indian government has been struggling to normalize the downward spiral of ever widening Child Sex ration among Indian population.

The  2011 Census showed a significant declining trend in the Child Sex Ratio(CSR) between 0-6 years with an all time low of 914. The situation directly reflected both pre and post birth discrimantion against girls. In such a scenario, to ensure survival, protection and empowerment of girl child, the Government launched  Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) campaign on 22nd January, 2015 at Panipat in Haryana.

Since then the scheme has garnered wide popularity and continues to fight against gender discrimination. In such schemes although launched by the government, its success depends on the collective effort of central and state governments, Non Governmental organisations, corporates and individuals.

One such individual is Darshan Sharma, an alumnus of Saraswati Shishu Mandir Deen Dayal Dham, Rewa, Madhya Pradesh.

Darshan is a UPSC Aspirant and presently preparing for the same in Delhi. After his schooling from Vidya Bharati, he completed his B.com (2014) & M.com (2016) from Govt Excellence TRS Autonomous College Rewa. He has been associated with social work for the past 8 years and been a part of a wide range of social activities and programs.

The passionate youth is a firm believer of human and child rights and is an active member of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao campaign in Rewa district of Madhya Pradesh. He has organised several events and workshops regarding the same in his area and also works with blind schools and orphanages.

Along with child rights, he is also a proponent of the ‘Swachh Bharat’ (Clean Rewa - Green Rewa) campaign and participated in numerous plantation and cleanliness drives.

Moreover Darshan runs a virtual blood bank where all members are interconnected via social media. Whenever a person needs blood, every possible effort is made to get them connected to the nearest donor or blood bank as soon as possible without any cost involved.

When asked about the impact of his school on his life, Darshan gave full credit to his school for fueling his passion for social service and giving him strength to work towards fulfilling his ambitions. He thanked his teachers and school for inspiring him and installing in him good values and habits that have helped him to be more grounded and selfless in life.

Darshan further wanted to give the following messages:

“For Vidya Bharati, I would like to request that please don’t compare yourself to other commercialised educational institutes and maintain your principles and integrity so that more students can grow up to be an ideal citizen of our nation.”

“ For Vidya Bharati students  I would like to say, please respect your nation, your parents and stay devoted to the values taught by your school. Always remember ‘वसुधैव कुटुम्बकम’ - The whole world is a family”

Vidya Bharati is thankful to have inspirational youths like Darshan Sharma among its alumni community.
