“ Teaching is not just a profession it is a mission” - Shivi Gupta, Vidya Bharati teacher.
Teaching is a profession like no other. A teacher’s duty does not end with just teaching, but encompass a plethora of other responsibilities. It is those teachers that go beyond their call of duty, that are most loved and leave a positive mark in the lives of their students.
One such award winning teacher is Shivi Gupta, teacher in Sanatan Dharm Saraswati Balika Vidya Mandir, Lakhimpur, Uttar Pradesh. Recently Ms. Gupta shared her thoughts with Vidya Bharati Purv Chatra Parishad, in an interview, whose extract is given below:
Interviewer : Ma’am can you kindly share your academic and professional journey with us
Shivi Gupta : I completed my 12th in 2006 under UP board and completed graduation in 2009 from Chhatrapati Shahu Ji Maharaj University, Kanpur. I also did my M.Sc in Chemistry from the same university. Later I completed my B.Ed in 2014.
Presently, I have been working as a chemistry lecturer in Sanatan Dharm Saraswati Balika Vidya Mandir, Lakhimpur since 2014. I received ‘Perfect teacher award’ in 2016 and 2019 due to my dedication, result and discipline.
Interviewer : What made you choose teaching as a profession?
Shivi Gupta : I chose to become a teacher, because for me teaching is not just a profession it is a mission. Children who are like clay! are moulded and shaped by the hands of a teacher. I realised that through teaching I would be able to fulfil my soul's craving to make a contribution towards shaping a better world for tomorrow.
It gives me immense joy to see my students grow, acquire new dimensions to their personality and gain confidence to face their future.
Interviewer : How did Vidya Bharati impact your life?
Shivi Gupta : After joining Vidya Bharti I literally felt my life changing for the better. Learning is a lifelong process and I am blessed that I got to learn new things after joining work. The work culture at Vidya Bharati is totally different than what I had expected. I feel that now I am more disciplined in life and responsible towards my work.
I have learned the importance of time, discipline and responsibility, thanks to Vidya Bharati.
Interviewer : Would you like to give any message to Vidya Bahrati and its students?
Shivi Gupta : I would like to thank my college management for believing in me and giving me a chance to serve this college. I will always suggest to all the students to pay attention towards their studies and work hard with complete dedication.
I would end with the saying - " The hardest person you will ever face is the one staring back at you in the mirror”
Vidya Bharati thanks Shri Shivi Gupta for sharing her valuable thoughts with the community.
