Sri Mahesh Kumar Patidar is a male nurse working with a government hospital in Chittorgarh. Coming from a large joint family of 15 members, all of who are farmers, Mahesh did his schooling from the Vidhya Niketan School in Chittorgarh and then took admission in a nursing college in Bangalore to pursue his passion to serve people.
“During our school days we got involved with a number of social activities. It was during this time that I realized I wanted to grow up and take care of physically ill people. That is why I did a course in nursing”, mentioned Mahesh, who is in a profession that is quite unusual for men.
When it comes to kindness, compassion, and caring for others, Mahesh has us all beat. He works in long shifts doing many of the tiny, important tasks to keep the patients healthy. He enjoys performing complicated, life-saving manoeuvres on the sickest patients every day. During the coronavirus crisis, Mahesh worked on the first line of defence in his hospital against the ravages of COVID-19 often to exceed the already arduous call of duty.
Before becoming a male nurse, Mahesh helped poor children with their education. He would guide them with their studies and from time-to-time provided them books.
“Whatever I learned from my school has helped me in my entire life. The moral teachings of my teachers have motivated me to become a male nurse to serve people and take care of them”, says Mahesh.
