Shivam Goswami an alumnus of Saraswati Shishu Vidya Mandir, Baghmara, Dhanbad, Jharkhand spends most of his spare time being associated with different kinds of social service, as he is a firm believer of leading a life of service. He shared his passion and experiences via an interview recently, whose extract is given below:
Interviewer : Can you give a brief background of your academic and professional journey?
Shivam : I am an alumni of Saraswati Shishu Vidya Mandir, Baghmara, Dhanbad and passed out in 2010. After completion of my schooling, I did my graduation from P.K Roy Memorial College, Dhanbad and now I am working as a Sales Officer at Nikon India Pvt Ltd, Ranchi.
Interviewer : You have mentioned that you are associated with social work. Please tell us more about your experiences.
Shivam : I have always believed in leading a life of service to the society. I feel that helping others gives you the truest form of happiness. Though I have done various different kinds of social work, I am currently associated with an organisation named ‘Pragati Kala Manch’, which was founded by Rajiv Mukherjee and Shreya Banerjee in 2015.
This organisation does social work in different sectors. One of the most important being providing financial support for education to the children of financially backward families, here in Dhanbad. A lot of focus is given to the education of slum children as well, so that they can break free of the poverty cycle and afford a better life for themselves and their families.
The organization also helps widowed women to become financially independent and stable. We provide sewing machines to women so that they can earn their own livelihood.
Other than those mentioned earlier, the members of the organization build shelters for the homeless, distribute clothes and food to the needy and organise cultural events for the differently - abled children.
Apart from being associated with ‘Pragati Kala Manch’, I am also the founder and national convenor of ‘Bhagat Singh Yuva Sena’ which is a Non political social Organisation and it is registered with National NGO portal.
We at ‘Bhagat Singh Yuva Sena’, work for rural development, renovation of the statues of freedom fighters and youth development programs that will allow youths of our country to serve India better . Presently 50 plus members are serving diligently across India, under this organization.
I was fortunate enough to be awarded with ‘Pratibha Samman Puraskar’ presented by Naya Sawera Parivar Trust for my social service work.
Interviewer : Would you like to say something about your school and Vidya Bharati in general?
Shivam : I feel extremely privileged to be a Vidya Bharati alumni. My school has instilled in me the sense of discipline and service, as well as love for our Indian culture. I am also grateful to my teachers who have always supported me, guided me and gave me the strength to achieve my dreams.
Vidya Bharati Purv Chatra Parishad thanks Shivam for sharing his story with the alumni community.
