The youth of a nation shapes and moulds its present and paves the way for its future. The young generation shoulders a huge chunk of the responsibility of nation building be it economic, social or political along side the policy makers and engaging youth as nation builders can be a key strategy for any country.
Indian government recognising the power of youth in terms of nation building had started National Service Scheme (NSS) in 1969, which provides opportunity to the Indian students of class 11th,12th and graduation to take part in various government led community service activities and programmes with the intention of giving hands on experience to young students in delivering community service.
Prakhar Agrawal an alumnus of Jai Narayan Vidya Mandir Inter College, Kanpur was determined to serve the society from a very young age. He always wanted to bring positive changes in society and is ardently working for several social causes at the moment.
The third year graduate student from Acharya Narendra Dev College, joined NSS and has volunteered for several projects till date. On June 2018, Prakhar became involved in Swachh Bharat Summer Internship program which was organised by the Ministry of Human Resource and Development in association with Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation. He was appointed as a team leader and the entire team worked for 100 hours in different domains of ‘Swachhta’ in targeted villages. About 420 people were sensitized during this campaign. The team also organized awareness camps for students of primary and secondary schools to sensitize them regarding the importance of cleanliness and hygiene.
A cleanliness and waste collection drive was formulated with the help of MCD workers, where the team targeted villages and streets with improper garbage disposal. Impressed by their hard work and dedication, Member of Parliament Shri Ramesh Bidhuri helped them by providing them a larger workforce. At the end of their campaign the team’s efforts was highly appreciated and applauded by both the general public and government officials.
Recently Prakhar was involved in 'Media for Social Change Fellowship' programme organised by ‘YES Foundation’ which is a social development arm of YES Bank. The prestigious Fellowship program is aimed at developing socially conscious youth leaders and amplifying communication systems of Social Impact Organisations. He was placed in Non Profit Organization named ‘Matri Sudha’, where he worked as Social Media Fellow Designate.
Prakhar feels that his initial inclination towards serving the society was initiated by his school that encouraged all students to work for societal betterment through a very hands on approach. He further goes on to say that he intends to continue working for the betterment of his county in any aspect possible.
It is heartening to see youths like Prakhar passionately serving their country to build a better future.
