Suraj Dev Mishra, helping youths of mining community of Jharkhand through Career Counselling

India does not have a dearth of brilliant students, but it has been observed that due to lack of proper guidance, students go for higher studies, that often don't compliment their talents, resulting in career dissatisfaction or even failure. Technical constraints, social pressure, lack of knowledge are all contributors towards this problem.

Recognising this issue, Vidya Bharati alumnus, Suraj Dev Mishra of Saraswati Shishu Mandir, Mosabani, Jharkhand took up the responsibility of helping students from villages to choose correct career path, as well as helping them to do different courses that would make them more employable in their future.

Suraj Dev Mishra was an exceptional student since his school days and had often topped in his class. After completing his schooling, he completed his engineering along with his MBA and presently working as Deputy Manager with Ashok Leyland. Initially he was posted in Mosabani ,which is a rural mining area in Jharkhand.

While working in Mosabani, he saw that as it was a mining area, there was a huge demand for unskilled labourers, but apart from that there was no other career options available for the youth. It troubled him to see students giving up studies to work as unskilled labour. Although there were approximately 9500  residents in the area, there was a shortage of educated people. 

In an attempt to solve these problems, he started career counselling classes for the students of the area. He set up a two room centre with two teachers to cater to the students. 

Although presently he is posted in Siliguri, he has not given up on his mission. He has started online counselling, where students can reach him through Whatsapp, call or social media. Several students from Mosabani, has been able to get placed in well known companies due to Mr. Mishra’s efforts and guidance.

While speaking about his experiences, Mr. Mishara gave credit to his school for installing the need for social service in him along with the importance of discipline and sense of respect for others, which in turn have proved to be valuable lessons in his life. He further went on to urge all Vidya Bharati alumni and students to share their knowledge with those that required help.
