Every year our nation requires approximately 4 Crore units of blood, out of which only a meager 40 Lakh units of blood are available. Alarmingly, more than 38,000 blood donations are needed every day. Sadly blood cannot be manufactured synthetically. It can only come from generous donors. One donation of blood from a healthy donor can help save the lives of up to three people.

Twelve years ago, being witness to a traumatic event left a deep mark and changed the life of Priyesh Sharma. Helplessness and hurdles faced by family members of patients in need of blood prompted him to take action towards helping those who are facing such a crisis.

Priyesh, a private bank employee, is an alumnus of Sharaswati Shishu Mandir, Ashoknagar, Madhya Pradesh. For the past 12 years he has been a regular blood donor and 4 years back created a facebook group consisting of like minded people, who can be contacted by anyone in case of emergency. Presently the group has grown to include more than 5500 members and gaining more people each day.

The group caters to people from several areas in Madhya Pradesh, such as Ashoknagar, Vidisha, Guna, Kota, Bhopal etc. In Ashoknagar there are 45 hospitals and in each hospital Priyesh has created a chain of donor group. He has given his contact number to the nearby hospitals of Ashoknagar where in case of emergency, families can contact him directly. Priyesh also actively works to spread awareness regarding the importance of blood donation.

Priyesh’s good work has saved the lives of hundreds of people gaining him love, respect and accolades from many people, but he is not a man to rest on his laurels. The immense success of his Whatsapp group, inspired him to start another such group recently, were members come together to provide essential goods to needy tribal families.

According to Priyesh, the concept of ‘Sewa’, taught in his school was a big factor that inspired him to help others and be associated with “Jan Sewa”.
