While we practice social distancing and self-isolate ourselves in the comfort of our homes waiting for the novel coronavirus to slow to a halt, people like Dr. Kapil Dev Anjana are risking their own lives to bravely battle COVID-19 every single day.
Dr. Anjana is an alumnus of Vidhya Niketan Senior Secondary School, Chhoti Sadri. He has studied in a government school till the 6th standard before taking admission in the Vidya Bharati School in 7th grade. “Vidhya Niketan was the best school near my village. Although I had to cycle 14 kilometers every day to reach school and go back home, whatever I learned from here cannot be compared to that little effort of mine”, said Dr. Anjana.
Coming from a small village in Pratapgarh district of Rajasthan, Dr. Anjana moved to Kazakhstan to earn his MBBS degree from the Semey State Medical University of Kazakhstan. After completing his MBBS amidst the Covid-19 pandemic last year, he returned to India to serve his country. He immediately took and cleared the Foreign Medical Graduate Examination and joined as Doctor in the Civil Hospital Gurgaon in the Emergency Department to offer a year of free service.
“Earlier I had only night shifts, but now as the cases of Covid-19 is increasing rapidly, I am working day-in and day-out”, he mentions. There is nothing called a break for him. His only aim is to look after the patients who are going through pain and fear.
“Due to coronavirus”, Dr. Anjana said, “we are seeing a rapid growth of patients with respiratory problems and diseases like tuberculosis”.
Life is harsh for this young doctor. Dressed up in Personal Protective Equipment with a gown, head cover, gloves and masks all the time as the temperature outside keeps soaring higher and patients keep flocking in, it is almost unimaginable for most of us to bear with the situation. It becomes difficult to breathe or drink water or eat food.
But Dr. Anjana never loses the calm of his mind and a smile on his face. “As a doctor, treating those who are ill is my primary duty. At times it gets difficult to see people die in front of your eyes. But, I thank my school for teaching me to remain calm from within and to remember God in crisis. ”, he mentions.
Times are difficult but with people like Dr. Anjana we are sure to defeat the virus. Vidya Bharati Alumni salutes Dr. Kapil Dev Anjana for being a Healthcare Hero.
