“Personality is not born but forged” -  Research shows that an individual's personality starts solidifying itself mostly around the ages 9 to 12 years. Right education and positive environment at this crucial time help to develop a well rounded socially responsible, adult personality.

Sadly in India too much stress is laid on only academic performance and other aspects of personality development is neglected, resulting in individuals lacking social and environmental consciousness. Thus it is important to expose students to a variety of topics and extracurricular activities from a young age for their overall development.

Kuldeep Godiyal an alumnus of Meharban Singh Kandari Saraswati Vidya Mandir Inter College, Kotdwara is an Assistant Professor in Shivalik College of Engineering, Dehradun. Being an ex student of Vidya Bharati school and a teacher by profession he is well aware of the importance of personality development among students. With this aim Mr. Godiyal with his three member team organizes awareness workshops on several burning issues among school children.

Mr. Godiyal along with Mr. Vipin Chandra Bhatt, Mr. Arvind and Mr. Rahul Sharma has provided awareness sessions till date to approximately 1400 students from different schools in Dehradun on following topics:

  • Importance of tree plantation for environmental protection

  • Dangers of drug and substance abuse

  • Raising awareness regarding traffic rules

The sudden raise in Dehradun’s population from migration, had led to the emergence of several social problems that were not being addressed properly. This made Mr. Godiyal realize the need for raising more socially conscious citizens , which in turn led him to start the awareness sessions among school students.

He finds his inspiration to work for social good from his teacher Sri Haricharan Chaturvedi and social activist, Shri Rajiv Dixit.

His message for the Indian youth is - ‘Never forget your rich cultural roots, as it teaches you how to respect others and serve your society.’

Mr. Godiyal hopes that his efforts will help to raise better next generation Indian citizens.
