With the advancement of technology, the world is getting more connected than ever. Just in the last decade, the invasion of the digital world has changed the way people carry out their day-to-day activities. In India, which is the largest market for internet users, after China, approximately 370 million citizens actively use the internet.
With greater connectivity, it becomes essential that the general public is made aware of the dangers of Cyber crime. India’s rapid and uncontrolled digitisation combined with a young digital population and an inadequate response mechanism, make cyber-attacks easy to carry out. Frauds involving theft of money, social media bullying, lottery scams and sexual harassment are quite common, so much so that approximately 11,500 incidents were reported across the country in 2015 alone.
Sumit Ojha, an alumnus of S.V.M Shikshanagar Morena, Madhya Pradesh is presently working as a researcher at Indian Cyber Squad ( Information security), which delivers legal Cyber Law consultancy and Digital forensic investigation services to individuals and corporates in the areas of Information Technology and Communications law.
He is also the Chapter Leader of OWASP Foundation and Volunteer at Cyber awareness and anti hacking society (CAAHS). Sumit has been working closely with Bhopal and Gujrat Police since 2011.
Working day- to- day in the field of Cyber Crime, Sumit is no stranger to the dangers of Cyber crime. In an effort to spread awareness among the general public, he started a coaching institute for Cyber Crime. He is also closely associated with NGOs, working in the arena of prevention of Cyber Crime. He frequently participates in seminars and workshops organised in schools and colleges to spread awareness among the youth, specifically girls.
Few of the topics covered in the workshops are as follows:
1- Cyber Crime and its type
2- Hacking and how it affect our life
3- Social Media safety tips
4- Computer and mobile safety
5- Online Shopping frauds.
6- Online Banking frauds
7- Cyber Law and where to report such crimes
Sumit is of the opinion that school and college students are the most vulnerable section of the society and making them aware of the threats of cyber crime is a responsibility of highest degree.
